YIN YOGA with Tymi Howard Sat, Apr 26, 2014 at 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

WHAT IS YIN YOGA? Yin Yoga targets the connective tissues, such as the ligaments, bones, and even the joints of the body that normally are not exercised very much in a more active style of asana practice.
Suitable for almost all levels of students, Yin Yoga is a perfect compliment to the dynamic and muscular (yang) styles of yoga that emphasize internal heat, and the lengthening and contracting of our muscles. Yin Yoga generally targets the connective tissues of the hips, pelvis, and lower spine.
While initially this style of yoga can seem quite boring, passive, or soft, yin practice can be quite challenging due to the long duration of the poses. We can remain in the postures anywhere from one to twenty minutes! Yin and yang tissues respond quite differently to being exercised. You need to experience this to really know what Yin Yoga is all about. After you have experienced it, even just once, you will realize that you have been doing only half of the asana practice.

Sat 10:30am-1:00pm Backbends for Energy
Standing poses and Backbends are foundational in a well rounded yoga practice. When done properly, they of course demand attention and energy, but they give back way more than they take. Find out for yourself how this is true in this uplfiting and empowering class.

Sat 2:00-4:30pm Forward Bends, Meditation, and Pranayama for Calmness
Got stress? Get into your hips and hamstrings. Even if you think you are the stiffest person in your yoga class, there are ways to make the most of the hip openers and forward bends right now and not sometime in the future or in your next life.
This class is guaranteed to leave you feeling more easeful physically, mentally and emotionally.

Sun 10:30am-1:00pm Arm Balances for Strength and Lightness
Even if you currently enjoy arm balances, you will learn more ways to use them to your advantage. Like other yoga poses, they are actually good for us, yet for many, they remain inaccessible. Find out how you can increase your own enjoyment of these playful and very strengthening poses.

Sun 2:00-4:30pm Inversions that Heal
Headstand and Shoulderstand are unsurpassed for improving health and releasing stress from the neck, back and shoulders. This class is designed for anyone who is interested in developing a safer, stronger inversion practice that they can rely on now and in the future. With much of our time these days devoted to using technology, our upper backs, necks, shoulders and wrists need more time upside down.
